POPE FRANCIS ANGELUS, 5th Sunday of Lent, St. Peter's Square, 6 April 2025

Dear brothers and sisters, The Gospel of this fifth Sunday of Lent presents to us the episode of the woman caught in adultery (Jn 8:1-11). While the scribes and the pharisees want to stone her, Jesus restores the lost beauty to this woman. She has fallen in the dust; Jesus passes his finger on this dust and writes a new story for her. It is the “finger of God”, who saves His children (cf. Ex 8:15) and frees them from evil (cf. Lk 11:20).

친애하는 형제자매 여러분, 사순 제5주일 복음은 간음하다 잡힌 여인의 이야기를 (요한복음 8,1-11) 우리에게 들려줍니다. 율법학자들과 바리사이들은 그 여인을 돌을 던져 죽이기를 원하지만, 예수님께서는 이 여인에게 잃어버린 아름다움을 회복시키십니다. 그 여인은 흙먼지 속으로 추락하였습니다. 예수님께서는 이 흙먼지에 손가락으로 그 여인을 위한 새로운 이야기를 쓰십니다. 그것은 당신의 자녀들을 구원하고 (탈출기 8,15 참조) 그들을 악에서 해방시키는 (루카 복음 11,20 참조) "하느님의 손가락"입니다.
Dear friends, as during my hospitalization, even now in my convalescence I feel the “finger of God” and experience His caring touch. On the day of the Jubilee of the sick and the world of healthcare, I ask the Lord that this touch of His love may reach those who suffer and encourage those who care for them. And I pray for doctors, nurses and health workers, who are not always helped to work in adequate conditions and are sometimes even victims of aggression. Their mission is not easy and must be supported and respected. I hope that the necessary resources will be invested in treatment and research, so that health systems are inclusive and attentive to the most fragile and the poorest.
사랑하는 친구 여러분, 저의 입원 기간 동안과 마찬가지로 회복 기간인 지금도 저는 “하느님의 손가락”을 느끼고 그분의 보살핌의 손길을 체험합니다. 병자와 세계 보건 희년의 날에 저는 주님께 청합니다. 주님 사랑의 이 손길이 고통 받는 사람들에게 도달하고, 그들을 보살피는 사람들을 주님께서 격려하여 주십사고 간청합니다. 그리고 저는 의사, 간호사, 그리고 의료 종사자들을 위해 기도합니다. 그들은 항상 적절한 환경에서 일할 수 있도록 도움을 받지 못하며, 때로는 공격의 희생자가 되기도 합니다. 그들의 사명은 쉽지 않으며, 지원 받고 존중 받아야 합니다. 저는 치료와 연구에 필요한 투자가 이루어져서, 의료시스템이 가장 취약하고 가장 가난한 사람들을 포함하고, 그들을 세심하게 돌볼 수 있게 되기를 희망합니다.

On International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, I hope that sport may be a sign of hope for so many people who need peace and social inclusion, and I thank the sporting associations that educate fraternity in practical way.
발전과 평화를 위한 국제 스포츠의 날에, 저는 스포츠가 평화와 사회적 포용을 필요로 하는 많은 사람들에게 희망의 표시가 되기를 바라며, 실질적인 방식으로 형제애를 교육하는 스포츠 협회에 감사드립니다.
Let us continue to pray for peace: in tormented Ukraine, stricken by attacks that are claiming many civilian victims, including a lot of children. And the same is happening in Gaza, where people are reduced to living in unimaginable conditions, without shelter, without food, without clean water. May the weapons be silenced and dialogue resumed; may all the hostages be freed and aid brought to the population. Let us pray for peace throughout the Middle East; in Sudan and South Sudan; in the Democratic Republic of the Congo; in Myanmar, hard hit by the earthquake; and in Haiti, where violence rages, and two religious sisters were killed a few days ago.
평화를 위해 계속 기도합시다. 고통 받는 우크라이나는 수많은 어린이를 포함한 많은 민간인 희생자를 내는 공격으로 시달리고 있습니다. 그리고 가자에서도 똑같은 일이 일어나고 있습니다. 사람들은 상상할 수 없는 조건 즉 집이 없고, 식품이 없고, 깨끗한 물이 없는 환경에서 살게 되었습니다. 무기를 침묵시키고, 대화가 재개되고, 모든 인질이 풀려나고, 구호품이 주민들에게 전달되기를 바랍니다. 중동 전역의 평화를 위해 기도합시다. 수단과 남 수단, 콩고 민주 공화국, 지진으로 큰 타격을 입은 미얀마, 폭력이 난무하는 아이티의 평화를 위해 기도합시다. 아이티에서 며칠 전에 두 명의 수녀가 살해되었습니다.
May the Virgin Mary protect us and intercede for us.
